Have a question about LiveSight, or something is not working? Email us — a real person reads every message.
Email is our only support channel — there is no phone line, live chat or contact form, so writing to the address above is the fastest way to reach us. To help us answer on the first reply, please include your device model (for example iPhone 13 or iPad Air), your iOS or iPadOS version, and what you were doing when the problem happened, including which mode you were using.
What LiveSight does
LiveSight is a live voice assistant for blind and low-vision people, on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16 or later). While the live assistant is running, it streams your camera and microphone to Google Gemini, using your own free Google AI Studio key; Gemini looks at the camera view and talks back to you. Before the first session, LiveSight asks you once whether you agree to this. LiveSight adds haptic feedback, voice commands, a compass, the current weather, battery status, an emergency SOS button and optional fall detection.
You choose a mode at the bottom of the screen:
- Navigation mode warns you about obstacles, vehicles and the path ahead, using clock directions, and vibrates when it reports a hazard.
- Traffic mode tells you the colour of the traffic light it sees. Always confirm with your cane, guide dog or other cues before crossing.
- Colors mode names the colours and patterns of clothing and objects and can give an outfit tip.
- Expiration mode reads expiry dates on packaging and says whether a product is expired, expiring soon or not expired.
- Explore mode describes your surroundings.
LiveSight is an aid, not a replacement for a white cane, a guide dog, orientation and mobility training, or emergency services. The AI can be wrong or miss things.
Only the live assistant needs a key: your own free Google Gemini API key. LiveSight has no AI server of its own and no built-in key. The first time you open the app, it explains how to create a free key in Google AI Studio. You can also tap Look around first and use the app without a key: choose a mode, and use SOS, emergency contacts, the Journal and Settings. Looking around asks for no camera, microphone or location access and sends nothing.
The assistant can speak English, Turkish, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, Chinese or Japanese, in a voice you choose. The app's own screens are in English.
LiveSight also keeps a Journal on your device: a record of the hazards, vehicle warnings, SOS events and fall checks it announced, kept for 90 days. You can read earlier days, share or export the Journal, and delete it at any time. LiveSight is completely free: every feature is included for everyone, with no purchases, no ads and no account.

How do I get my free Google AI Studio key, and where do I enter it?
LiveSight has no AI server and no built-in key, so it uses your own key from Google (a Gemini API key). The key is free: you need a Google account, but no credit card. The first time you open LiveSight, it shows one screen, Your free Google AI Studio key, with these steps:
- Tap Get your free key. Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com/apikey) opens in Safari.
- Sign in with your Google account (Google requires you to be 18 or older to create and use an API key).
- Tap Create API key.
- Copy the key.
- Come back to LiveSight and tap Paste.
- Tap TEST. When LiveSight says “Google accepted this key. You are ready.”, tap START.
- Before the first session, LiveSight shows a one-time question about what is sent to Google. Tap Agree to continue (or Not now). Only then does iOS ask for the camera, the microphone and your location.
If you tapped Look around first, tap Add my free key in the camera area to get to these steps.
To test, change or clear your key later, open Settings (the gear icon) → API in LiveSight. It shows your key partly hidden, with Test, Change and Clear buttons; Change shows the same steps and a Save this key button.
Your key is stored only on your device and is sent only to Google. Google sets the free limits for your key (see Google's rate limits page). If you ever need higher limits, you can turn on Google's paid tier for your own key; Google bills you for it directly, never LiveSight. See About Google's paid tier (Google's own billing page). LiveSight never charges you anything.
The live session stops or will not start — what should I check?
Check these in order:
- Your key. In LiveSight, open Settings → API and tap TEST. If the test fails, paste a working key.
- Google's limit. If your key has reached Google's limit, the session cannot start or continue until the key works again. You can wait for the limit to reset. If you often need more, you can turn on Google's paid tier for your own key — see the first question above.
- Your internet connection. The live session talks to Google over the internet, so make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Permissions. Open the iOS Settings app → LiveSight and check that Camera and Microphone are allowed. Location (While Using the App) is optional: it is used for the weather, to tell the assistant roughly where you are, and for the SOS text.
- The AI-sharing question. If you tapped Not now, the assistant stays off for that launch; tap Review and start in the camera area. If you turned AI sharing off in Settings → Privacy, LiveSight asks again before the next session.
If it still does not work, fully close LiveSight and open it again. Then email us and tell us what happens when you try to start a session.
How does the emergency SOS button work?
Hold the red SOS button for 3 seconds. A 10-second countdown starts, with a Cancel button. When the countdown ends:
- If you have saved at least one emergency contact, LiveSight opens Apple's Messages app with a ready-made emergency text addressed to your primary contact (or to your first contact, if none is marked primary). When LiveSight has a location fix, the text includes your current location and a Google Maps link. Nothing is sent until you tap Send in Messages.
- If no contact is saved, LiveSight tells you that nobody was contacted and to call your local emergency number.
The same countdown also starts if you say “send SOS” during a session, if the assistant concludes that you are in immediate danger or asking for help, or, with Auto SOS on, if you do not answer a fall check. You can always cancel it. SOS works even when a LiveSight session is not running, and without a key. Your emergency contacts — a name and a phone number for each — are the ones you type into LiveSight yourself, and they are stored only on your device. LiveSight does not read the contacts on your iPhone or iPad.
LiveSight never calls emergency services and never sends a message by itself. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
How does fall detection work?
Fall detection is off by default. Turn it on in LiveSight Settings → Safety → Fall detection; iOS then asks for motion access. It works only while a live session is running, never in the background.
- After a hard jolt followed by about 3 seconds of stillness, LiveSight vibrates and shows “Possible fall. Are you okay?” with an I'M OKAY button. You can also say “I am okay”.
- If you do not answer within 10 seconds and Auto SOS is on (it is also off by default), the usual 10-second SOS countdown starts, and you can still cancel it. With Auto SOS off, nothing is sent.
Fall detection can miss a fall or raise a false alarm, for example when the phone is dropped. Do not rely on it alone.
What does LiveSight ask before anything is sent to Google, and how do I take it back?
Before the live assistant starts for the first time, LiveSight shows one question, Before the live assistant starts. It lists what is sent to Google Gemini, using your own key, while the assistant is running: pictures from your camera (a few every second), what your microphone hears, your location and the weather there if you allow location, and your language, speech speed and mobility-aid choice. Nothing is sent to LiveSight or its developer. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to what Google receives; on Google's free tier, Google may use what is sent to improve its products.
Tap Agree or Not now. You can read the same text again in Settings → Privacy. Turn off AI sharing there ends a running session, and LiveSight asks again before the next one. The Stop button ends a session at any time.
Is LiveSight free?
Yes, completely. Every feature is free for everyone: all five modes, voice commands, haptics, the compass, the weather, SOS and emergency contacts, fall detection, and the whole Journal — earlier days, Share or export Journal and Delete the Journal included. There are no purchases, no ads and no account.
The Journal is a record, kept on your device, of the hazards, vehicle warnings, SOS events and fall checks LiveSight announced. It keeps entries for 90 days (up to 4,000 entries), is never uploaded, and leaves your device only if you choose to share or export it through the iOS share sheet.
The only possible cost is not ours: if you ever need higher limits than Google gives your key for free, you can turn on Google's paid tier for your own key, and Google bills you for it directly. LiveSight never charges you anything.
Where is my data stored, and what leaves my device?
Your API key, emergency contacts, settings, Journal, your answer to the AI-sharing question (with its date) and the counters for Apple's rating prompt are stored on your device, inside the app. There is no account to create and no password to remember. The Journal is never uploaded; it leaves your device only if you choose to share or export it. Settings → Privacy → Delete All My Data removes all of it and returns the app to its first screen.
Only after you agree to the one-time AI-sharing question, and only while the live assistant is running, LiveSight sends camera pictures, microphone audio, your location and the weather (if you allow location), and your language, speech speed and mobility-aid setting directly from your device to Google Gemini, using your own key. To show the weather, it sends your coordinates to Open-Meteo once per launch. LiveSight sends nothing to us, and there is no developer server.
The LiveSight privacy policy has every detail, including how to delete your data.
The app crashes, or a feature does not work — what should I do?
Three quick things fix most of it:
- Update to the latest version of LiveSight in the App Store — the fix may already be out.
- Fully close the app and reopen it; if that does not help, restart your device.
- Check that your device has enough free storage.
Still broken? Email us at support@playtools.top and include:
- Your device model (for example iPhone 13 or iPad Air).
- Your iOS or iPadOS version.
- The app version, if you can find it.
- Which mode you were using, and what you did or said just before it went wrong.
That is usually enough for us to reproduce the problem straight away. Please do not include your API key.
